How to look after your Wicket Keeping Gloves
-
Step 1
Clean
When either dirty or scuffed, please remember to clean your gloves with some form of saddle soap, or some form of leather cream. I recommend Horseman’s One Step, available online. It both cleans and feeds the leather.
-
Polish
Once treated with the above or your choice of leather treatment .
Polish the gloves with normal shoe polish. All colours of polish or cream including White are available from shoe repairers.
Use the cleansing leather cream and polish regularly keep the backs soft from the wet and sweat. -
Care points to remember
Other than re-facing, £35.00 for pimples or Octopus rubber plus postage, there is no reason why your gloves should not last a very long time, if looked after!
Never wear the gloves for long once the rubber has worn away from the centre of the palm. Contact on the leather with the ball may cause the leather to rip. Remember these are made from high quality cowhide, but it is still a natural material which will fail if not treated correctly.
Never wear wet inners as they rot the lining and make the gloves go hard once they dry out.
Never tack any rubber down with superglue as it crystallizes and ruins the leather. -
